Questions About Our Prior Formulation
Our top priority is offering consumers a safe and effective way to manage their heartburn. The voluntary recall of Zantac with ranitidine left many users without a Zantac treatment option while evaluations of ranitidine continue. New Zantac 360° contains famotidine, a clinically proven medicine which is FDA approved as safe and effective to both prevent and relieve heartburn.
At this time, there are no plans to bring back Zantac with the active ingredient ranitidine.
New Zantac 360° in Original Strength contains 10mg of the active ingredient, famotidine, and in Maximum Strength contains 20mg of famotidine.
Zantac 75 and Zantac 150 contained 75mg and 150mg respectively of the active ingredient ranitidine and are not currently available.
Ranitidine and Famotidine are both H2 receptor antagonists which reduce acid production to both prevent and relieve heartburn. Zantac 360° contains famotidine. Famotidine is a different active ingredient than ranitidine, but it still offers your patients the same benefits, and is the same class of drug.

Questions About Heartburn Treatment Options
Famotidine, the active ingredient in new Zantac 360º is a Histamine 2 (H2) blocker. H2 blockers work to suppress the stimulation and secretion of gastric acid that causes heartburn. H2 blockers can be rapidly absorbed and taken before meals or after the onset of symptoms for patient heartburn prevention or relief on demand.
PPIs, or proton pump inhibitors, are a class of medication that inhibits or stops the secretion of acid in the stomach from the “proton pump,” a molecule contained in stomach cells which “pump” acid into the stomach. Product examples of PPIs are prescription PPIs like Nexium®, Prilosec® and Prevacid®, and over-the-counter PPIs like Nexium® 24HR, Prilosec OTC® and Prevacid® 24HR.

While both H2 blockers and PPIs reduce the production of acid in the stomach, there are a variety of differences. PPIs are used to treat frequent heartburn, taken daily as a regimen for 14 days. They are not indicated for immediate relief of heartburn and may take 1 to 4 days for full effect. H2 blockers like Zantac 360°™ can prevent heartburn when taken before eating or drinking, or they can be taken when heartburn symptoms strike for fast, long-lasting acid control for up to 12 hours.*
*Acid control does not correlate with symptom relief.
